OMBRE BLOSSOMS

Quilt Storage Solutions
So you have a few quilts stacked up, huh? And now they’re lurking precariously behind closet doors, ready to assault you as soon as the door is opened. Yeah, that would be a personal confession about my life :) This is a stack of unorganized trunk show quilts, ...sigh. So, it’s time to do something about it! I did a little research, and here’s what I found. If you, too, have a monster pile of quilts, maybe this will help. Rolling quilts is a good way to keep them from being p

A Little of This and a Little of That!
How about a cute way to put those orphan blocks to use?! I've seen some pretty terrific stockings that are a hodgepodge of leftover orphan blocks and scraps of all kinds. This week, I thought I would try one myself since I have no shortage of scraps! Haha! It was a really fun process, and I thought I would share my own twist with added dimensional bits tucked in here and there. I decided to do this in a quilt-as-you-go style to eliminate the need for quilting it once it was

These are a Few of my Favorite Things!
Can you believe Christmas is less than two weeks away!? Oh my goodness, how is that even possible??? With all the busyness that’s sure to dominate the next couple of weeks, I thought it would be fun to put together a quilter's stocking stuffer idea list! You can share this with your loved ones when they are wondering what to get you for Christmas. I’m sure you could add to this list, but these are some things that came to my mind and would make great, smaller gifts! Phone tab

Santa Baby!
Need a quick, super-cute new idea?! Just this week, I worked up this little table runner using only three fabrics, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! I used a technique called fussy cutting to get these little Santas in the middle of each diamond. Then I cut matching triangles from striped fabric! That is pretty much all it is :) Once it was cut, I had the whole thing sewn in 37 min… haha! That’s right, less than an hour. I filmed a new YouTube video to show you the

Two Big Things 2025 Edition!
This week is a little different. It's a busy holiday week, and we have two big things happening. First, we are having our biggest sale of the year! All patterns, classes, kits, and tools are 25% off (in-stock items only) in the store through Cyber Monday (Dec. 1st) at 11:00 PM PST. There's a lot to be thankful for, and we are very grateful for your encouragement and support of this small business :) The second is near and dear to my heart! This is the seventh year I'm doing m

How to Bind a Hexagon
I received an email asking if I’d ever done a blog about binding hexagons? Hmmm, now that you mention it, that would make a great blog :) And, I hadn’t even thought of it! So, I whipped up this little table center mat out of an orphan block from Vintage Windmill and cut some binding strips. Mark ¼” dots in all the corners. I sewed my binding to the back, then wrapped it to the front to topstitch, and marked my dots on the back. (You could do the same process from the front. )

Crimson Christmas Scraps!
Well, would you look at that?! This week, I took inspiration from an older project and made a new poinsettia pillow using scraps left over from Crimson Christmas! Below is the original blog post and pillow I made in sweet spring pinks. I followed the same process, only this time in Christmas colors, and I am in love with it!! It’s time to change out the snowflake throw pillows in my living room, now that we are well into spring, haha! This week, I had the idea to make a 3D fl

No Scrap Left Behind…Binding
Here’s a way to use up every last scrap strip, no matter how wide it is! I made another batch of baby quilts with random odds and ends I had leftover from other projects. I have the hardest time throwing away odd-sized strips...you know the ones left at the end of your yardage once you’ve cut all your 2½” strips (or whatever size you cut). There’s always something left over. Most of the time, it’s only about 1½” - 2”… not really enough to do anything with, right :) Well, le

Winter Visit is Here!!
Are you ready for a Winter Visit?! This is my latest pattern, and it's so much fun to make! These little Christmas wreaths go together quickly, and they can use up all kinds of scraps or stash. I've wanted to do a cardinal bird in a quilt for a while, so this worked out perfectly. This week, we filmed a new YouTube video where I walk through the cutting and assembly process for the wreath blocks. I also talk about the final assembly process once you have all the blocks done.

Weekend Wool Warrior
It's about that time of year when we start thinking about quick little gift projects to make in a flash! How about a super easy wool-felt zip pouch for quilting essentials or a shave kit pouch for the guys? I've been working on some project ideas using wool felt, and I thought I would share one because it came out sooo cute! First, I cut an 11” wide x 12” long rectangle of wool felt (this stuff is stiff enough to hold its shape, but not hard to sew through). I used 3mm 100% w

A Web of Scraps!
Welp, another pile of scraps has found a home! I actually can’t believe I saved some of these, and yet, I am so happy I did! I scrounged around my scrap piles, pulling out all of my off-sized white-ish strips. These strips are all odd lengths and odd widths, with most being under 2” wide. I also found a whole pile of 1” black strips…. Why did I save those?! I probably just couldn’t bring myself to throw them out! I decided to create random strip sets, alternating between whit

Scrappy Pumpkins
Fall landed with a thud this year! It has been raining and blowing wet leaves around here for days now. I am still going through my buckets of scraps, so it’s the perfect sewing weather :) I made good use of my orange and brownish scraps to make scrappy little pumpkins. I made a video with a Free PDF pattern, in case you, too, have a pile of scraps and a little Fall weather sewing time. I hope you enjoyed that! Happy Sunday, everyone. That's Not Paint!!
I had a crazy idea while walking the aisles of the craft store. It started with fabric-covered pumpkins and morphed into this fabric “painted” pumpkin pillow! Years ago, we did a technique in quilting called “snippets” landscape quilts. This method uses fusible web-coated fabric cut into little snippets and then arranged to make beautiful landscape scenes. These quilts have a sort of painted look. It’s the perfect way to use up itty bitty useless scraps 🙂 I thought a pumpkin

Double Struck Star!
From a galaxy far, far away! Double Struck Star is one of my favorite patterns to make, and it is also one of the first designs I ever published. I've made this in Christmas colors in red, white, and blue, and also several times in the cover image colors of orange, green, and turquoise. It always looks amazing, made up, the magic is in the shade and color, no matter what fabrics you are using. I have been asked over and over again through the years to do a YouTube tutorial f

Getting to the Point
Have you ever stopped to think about how some of our most used notions are made? The ones that have been around forever, and we wouldn't know what to do without them? I came across this fantastic video showing the manufacturing of hand-sewing needles and pins. I found it so fascinating, I wanted to share it with you! Bohin, a French company, has been making high-quality needles since 1833. This video condenses their 27-step process into one minute. If you enjoy the details be

Trapumpkin!
I had a wild idea this week, to use the traditional trapunto quilting technique to make a dimensional pumpkin that I could frame. I found this nice, framed art for a great price. I didn’t care much for the art, but the frame was pretty, and I figured it would work great for this experiment! So, I gathered a bunch of cream and tanish-white scraps and set to work. I cut a generous piece of background fabric, big enough to fill the frame, plus about 1” extra all the way around.

Orphaned No More!
I started a project to combine a couple of sewing spaces into one. This turned into quite the project, organizing my scraps into color-coordinated piles and figuring out a way to store them where I wouldn’t lose track of what I had. Well, you wouldn’t believe what I found stashed here and there among my sewing stuff! I must have had an orphaned block or two from every quilt or demo I have done for the last five-plus years. I began to lay them all out. As I found them, the ide

Hitting the Mark!
I thought I'd review a few different marking tools. I've never been one to mark on my quilts for quilting, but I've used a few different marking pens during the piecing process, so I gathered a few to test. If you want a perfect diagonal line to follow, or are working on a project with special seams, such as Y seams, you might find marking your piecing helpful. There are several basic categories of marking pens: water-erasable, air-erasable, iron-away, chalk markers, and scor

Sashing Situations
Have you ever had trouble lining up your sashings to make straight intersections for a true grid look? It can be so frustrating lining up your blocks perfectly, only to sew them together, and the sashing is just off enough to be distracting. I turned another pile of scraps into a baby quilt, and I ran into this problem. Well, here is how I handled that! First, let me show you how you can make this cute baby quilt too :) I was given one of those little stacks of 2½” squares, I

Straight and Narrow
Over the years, I've received many comments and questions about my straight-line quilting technique. This is a question I often get when doing trunk shows, and I try to describe it while showing the quilts, but I've never done a blog showing my process. So, I spent a little time filming my straight-line quilting in action. I quilt almost all my quilts this way, it is super easy and fast! I do this style of quilting on my longarm, but you could do the same style on a domestic
