Backed into a Corner!

I have a problem with crumbs… and not the kind found in your kitchen 🙂

These little packs of 2½” squares (called crumbs) are sent to me whenever new fabric lines come out. I love looking at them, but then I feel guilty if I don’t find a way to use them!

So, this week I grabbed a couple of complementary packs, one solid and one floral print. I paired them up in four patches with two solids and two printed squares in each.

In the end, I got (20) four patches out of the two crumb packs. These four patches measure 4½” square once sewn.

I sewed white rectangles to two sides to frame it on just one side. I cut these from 2 ½” strips. One measured 2½” x 4½” and the other 2½” x 6½”.

For the second frame, I added two light gray rectangles, also cut from 2½” strips. One measured 2½” x 6½” and the other 2½” x 8½”.

These were added to the same side as the white rectangles, shifting the colored four patch to the bottom right corner.

Finally, I added striped rectangles for my last and final frame. These were also cut from 2½” strips, one was 2½” x 8½”, and the other was 2½” x 10½”. The finished blocks came out to 10½” square.

I laid out all of the blocks in a grid, four across and five down. Then, I sewed them together in horizontal rows.

Finally, I sewed the rows together to finish the quilt. The whole quilt measures 40½” x 50½” at this stage. A good baby or lap-size quilt!

And here it is! A few crumbs are no longer a problem, and I used up some odds and ends too :)
