Meet Percy, the latest addition to my quilt pattern family :) Isn’t he cute?! I've had this penguin idea in my head for several years now, and it’s finally happening!

Percy is the perfect size at 42” x 48” for a wall hanging or a baby quilt. He’s made up of mostly diamond and triangle cuts, so the piecing process is quite fast and easy. One of the most rewarding aspects for me is seeing something emerge from my mind in three-dimensional form, as a quilt, and then guiding it through the pattern writing process so that others can replicate it for themselves. It’s very satisfying, and this one makes me smile so big!
This week, we filmed a new YouTube video so I could show you some of the process. I covered a few of the more detailed cuts and how the overall assembly goes. I also talk about a technique I call X seams, and mention this blog that goes into detail about how those are done.
This pattern is written for the Creative Grids 60-degree Diamond Mini Ruler, but you could get all the same cuts using the Large Ruler. The only one that won’t work is the Tiny Ruler, because the cuts are just too small.

We built kits for this quilt using all the same fabrics that I used in the cover quilt. The pattern comes as a PDF download or in a printed version, as I show in the video. You can buy the kit alone, with the pattern, or with the pattern and ruler here.

I hope you love him 🙂
Happy Sunday everyone,
Krista
