I Finally Did it!

For years, I've been asked to create a version of the Hollow Star pattern with smaller stars, similar in size to those found in the table runner pattern. Well, I finally made it happen!

Unlike the original pattern with its huge 32” stars, this layout is perfect for Quilts of Valor. At 54” x 63”, it fits their size specifications better, and you can get a lot more of these smaller stars across the front.

This layout is also perfectly suited for precuts. You can make it with a jelly roll or any collection of 2½” strips!

Here is the basic block. I used the Creative Grids Mini Ruler to cut all the pieces, but you can also make these same cuts with the Large Diamond Ruler if that's what you have.
In this video, I walk through the cutting and assembly process of the table runner with the same size stars so you can get an idea of how this works. I also give some good pointers about working with bias and straight of grain.

This Hollow Star Mini pattern is available as a PDF download only. We also built kits with the same fabrics that I used to make my sample. If you would like one of those kits, we are including the pattern for free with the kit purchase! I hope you like it 🙂
Happy Sunday, everyone!
